Egypsk borg átti að laða að túrista – Er yfirgefin í dag – Magnaðar MYNDIR

Það er ekki laust við að manni verði hugsað með kvíða til áætlanna yfirvalda að fjölga hótelum og lundabúðum á Íslandi við að skoða myndir eins og þessar.

Egypska borgin Sharm El Sheikh er sorglegur minnisvarði túrismann sem eitt sinn var. Ástæður þess að borgin lagðist í eyði eru fjölþáttar en pólitík og sprengingar á svæðinu hafa haft sitt að segja.Protection: A security guard checks entrances of a Novotel site in Sharm, with most hotels having a tight system on who goes in and out

Árið 2011 ferðuðust 15 milljónir til Egyptalands en aðeins 9 milljónir árið 2014 en þar spilar Arabíska vorið og styrjaldirnar í kringum það sitt hlutverk.Away from the coast: Sharm is extending towards the desert, with more hotels and staff housing being built, with many unfinished. Some 15million visitors a year visited the country up until the 2011 Arab Spring, but that had dropped to just 9million in 2014Down by the water: From the Israeli border to Sharm El Sheikh, almost the entire cost of the Aqaba Gulf is built with tourist infrastructures

Hjónin Andrea and Magda eru ljósmyndarar og þær eyddu 9 mánuðum á svæðinu þegar þær tóku þessar myndir.Deserted: Shopping centre Il Mercato in Sharm, which was built with the idea of reproducing the architecture of famous Italian buildings. This stunning collection of photographs reveals an abandoned landscape of deserted beaches, unfinished hotels and a country in crisis

Breskir túristar hafa verið varaðir við að ferðast til Egyptalands og flugfélögin British Airways og easyJet hafa hætt ferðum um svæðið, allavega tímabundið, eftir að rússnesk farþegaþota var skotin niður á svæðinu.

Jetty: An artificial swimming pool in Sharm allowing swimmers to enjoy the sea without having to walk on rocks or to swim over corals. Married photographers Andrea and Magda have documented the Sinai including resorts such as Sharm El Sheikh and NuweibaaÞað er töluvert um yfirgefin dýr á svæðinu og hér má sjá cameldýr leita ætis í ruslagám.
On the hunt: A stray camel searches for food in a bin in Nuweiba - one of many abandoned animals once used as tourist attractions. The suspected bombing of a Russian passenger jet saw British Airways and easyJet cancel flights between Sharm and the UK until 2016

Work in progress: The unfinished Al Farah seaside resort in Taba - including this pool - has been left abandoned in Egypt since 2007
